Want a discount to Boston’s attractions? Use your library card!

An MA library membership does more than unlock books- it opens the door to some of the state’s most popular museums, cultural institutions, parks, and science centers. Many public libraries offer free or deeply discounted museum passes that can be reserved in advance, giving you budget-friendly access to attractions. The best part? No need for in-person visits- you can get a library membership online in literally 5 minutes! A free museum pass can often be reserved directly through your local library’s website, so check your local branch for availability and details.

5. How to sign up?

If you're a Massachusetts resident, you’re eligible for two types of library eCards:

  1. Boston Public Library (BPL) eCard: Visit the BPL eCard page and complete the online registration form. Approval is usually immediate.

  2. Your local library eCard (for residents outside of Boston): Most town libraries offer their own eCards. To apply, go to your local library’s website and look for the eCard or online registration section. Call the library’s front desk if you need help locating, and staff will walk you through the process.
